Oppositions: Deadlock?

Biblioteconomía 12 comentarios | Versión Imprimible Sunday, May 15th, 2005 Julio Ruiz Librarianship 12 comments | Printer Friendly

As always remembered, Library and Information Science offers a wide range of career, but really the most handy and desired is that of the opposition. Luckily, one of the aspects that has improved in recent years when opting to use the few public spaces in Archives, Libraries and Documentation Centers on offer is the inclusion of graduates in Library and Documentation within their bases. Although it may seem obvious as these graduates are actually specialized in these matters, not long ago these places were offered exclusively to graduates in other subjects like History, Geography, Philology and Philosophy. Now, however, are the Diploma in Library and Information and Documentation Graduates who really are more likely to get them.

Personally, I never submitted to a competition, but given the bleak landscape professional that I face, I decided to try to introduce as many as possible of them. We all know how complex it is to be awarded a place, not something that is achieved in the first, but is rather a matter of patience and perseverance. For this first time, patience and dedication was all I needed, since my mind was on other projects. So I considered a realistic goal: gain some experience in the small world of the opposition and trying, wherever possible, to enter the job market.

As imaginaréis, preparing for a competition is an arduous and complex task, in which the time factor is very important, and the collection and study of materials carried much of that time. There are many ways to obtain this material: On the Internet by schools that are devoted to it or by going to specialized bookstores. In my case, only two weeks to prepare the agenda (yes, two), I decided to focus on the share of legislation. Its content centered around the Spanish Constitution, statutes of the institution convener, laws vary, and so on. And although I got something on the Internet, the truth is that thanks to wonderful companions who lent me the agenda had the legislation needed. Regarding the agenda of the race itself, I decided to use the various manuals available. In fact, when studying, because of time constraints I could only read my legislation (the block less pleasant for the study and the issue that most do not know).

Fortunately, it appears that Saturday mornings are the days suitable for competitions. In this way the people who work should not ask permission to take examinations and avoiding the embarrassing fact that their precious heads are not very happy with the position they occupy and they will oppositional. In my case, unfortunately that was not a problem, and prepared to conduct the first review of the opposition a beautiful Saturday morning.

I arrive at the building where I have to be examined, and, among a host of people of different ages, beginning to see familiar faces fellow fatigue in the race, people that have agreed to introduce scholarships and job interviews. Curiously, always repeated the same faces. While we wait, we update, we tell how it goes: some little work but need something better and so are presented to the opposition, others simply do not have anything. Little by little circles are formed around topics such as labor and the outputs of the disposal. As we speak of the common elements of misery, I realize how little existing labor supply in the city of Valencia, which felt that it was working stagnation takes hold in my mind.

The hour and while the talks end, we're putting to be called into classrooms and to take the exam. Many faces nervous and patients waiting to be called illusions. Have you submitted the theoretical examination of the driver's license? Then I felt the sensation of being in the same situation, the procedure is the same: they call one by one, pronounce your name and once taught the DNI, as you enter the classroom and sit down.

Once in my room, a sense of pessimism comes over me from conversations I have heard and the current outlook that makes the opposition look like the "savior" of professional documentation. But gradually my mind focused on what is telling the clerk that gives us tests: the review must take place in pencil, so if you have one, they'll deliver the right (just a tube of linear pigmentation the number 2), is given the option of holding the examination in Valencian or Castilian, we review the leaves and the number of questions in each sheet (to resolve errors). And once completed this methodical preparation, I embarked on the review.

In the review there are questions of all types: standard questions that do seem prepared documentation for those who have completed the race, questions specific to the institution and its operations, questions of law which to my regret are the hardest to answer, and so on. In short, a whirlwind of eighty questions of different difficulty levels. Also, as in the driving test are multiple choice questions with multiple response options, although I know that penalize wrong answers, which I venture to kamikaze and answer all questions.

Ends the test, all going out and hear comments from various kinds: on the difficulty of the questions or not, about the lack of preparation for the exam ... Some are happy and feel they have opportunities to pass, even with note, others as I, even we are sure to come into stock and trust in the coming competitions, best studied, with more experience and lesson learned: "Do not answer what we do not know." I see so many still remain in the apparent impasse of the lack of work, the same one in which I move.

In short, I see traffic to proceed ...

Q July I've learned the lesson, not to answer this q what is not known, it seems logical. Q But I remember not all go into a job, and besides one of these q are 300 people, if you already know, you say, q above selfish complaining, but seriously, if we consider some future of q be served in a bag, to cover illness of 2 or 3 weeks, that's a future ...
    That's why we estudiao a bachelor ...

You is not all, if you're lucky enough to pass exams, then comes the damn contest, that's another story, if you better the experience you have acquired in the bag, but we must not forget the world of the opposition q is long and there are true professionals (in a good way) and these are not so easily won.

Well, do not be discouraged q July and you know, is a matter of luck and study ...

  6. Julio Ruiz says:

if Paco is a whole series of difficulties: first try to enter stock exchange in order to have "experience" in the competitions, and after several years of give and take, be a "professional" competitions and have luck in them.
    Greetings

  7. Mark Ros says:

Mood July things will be better in the next review. But you know if you go in kamikaze plan, answering all the questions, you usually do not end well.
