The quote that opens the first chapter of the book by John Battelle, The Database of Intentions is a preview of what's coming next. Recounting the history of Internet search engine that revolutionized just appear, the first advertisement was word of mouth from fans who discovered its effectiveness, should not be far from simple. And is that Google is today, synonymous with Internet search for information and be sure to find it.

The search engine is the place from which seeks to forge a new way of doing business, with varying degrees of success, a new philosophy by and for the network that tries to be summarized in one sentence Do not be evil (do not be bad). The event, which is the next up an appetite we realize that we are sinking into a fascinating story currently being written and this book reflects its peak:

The library of Alexandria was the first time humanity attempted to bring the sum total of human knowledge together in one place at one time. Our latest attempt? Google.

Brewster Kahle, entrepreneur and founder, the Internet Archive

Google is a powerful being both inside and outside the network, pay homage would be a very comfortable position, but John Battelle does not lose his composure at any time or perspective of what is done during the course of his book The Search (ISBN : 1-85788-361-6). Battelle enters a passionate story about the history of the browser, yes, but presenting their difficulties both past and future, marking the times perfectly, showing and delineating the background that chair sat before Google car parks.

No doubt there is a previous history to Google, sometimes you do not have this, but there were attempts at organizing and locating information on the Internet and Google can not escape the past. But these records are in the book as a symbol of the journey undertaken, but also as a warning that the law of the Network is that one day you can reach the pinnacle of success, but the next you see nothing and dragged into oblivion.

Reading The Search is pleasant and never becomes tedious, except the chapter on the output bag, Google goes public, the less interested in economics surely avoided. Thus, we start from the very roots of the Internet to the development of the first search engines and directories that arose when trying to organize the information that exponentially poured into the Web, up to the creation of Yahoo! will possess a role as a counterpoint to Google. We will attend to the vision of how Google and its algorithm, passing through some problems that caused the bots to search and Stanford University where he established his first headquarters in a room with Larry Page. Subsequently, we show the journey that Page and Sergey Brin were to obtain financing for their project and their curious celebration to the achievements in the nearest Burger King.

But not all been plain sailing for the young founders, we will face the search for a viable business model to satisfy the hunger of money, material and human monster which was slowly turning the company Google Inc. This is because of the dorm room of Larry Page, the search moved to a garage (how not) until that was small for the new company was born.

But if it starts Battalle documenting the beginnings of Internet searches, no lapses in their work presented the negative aspects of the company. For example, it is compromised when it comes to highlighting some of the complaints that have been shaking the seeker as he gained in importance. Thus, it is packing when accusations of obscurantism collect information, which was higher after its IPO, and even includes the testimony of a manager who according to his own opinion was fired a few weeks for not agreeing with and a culture of youth that is lavished on Google. Moreover, the rise to fame of the founders, their problems when trying to cope, the workload borne by, the organizational problems of a multinational and even problems with the filters of the Chinese government, which this year have been corroborated, are treated without any restrictions. Apparently nothing is in ink.

But is that even we overlook the next steps, the search for new ways to further improve the search, semantic web, and even the need for diversification in revenue from Google which currently underpins, and the vast Most of the advertising program Ad-Words.

In short, a book you should read the documentary interested in the Internet world and in the field of search engines, since it has no waste.
