The wonderful adventures in the change of hosting, now Dreamhost

Because this new year seems like everything is changing in ways surprisingly fast or slow depending on various considerations - hopefully resulting process always for the better - and playing change accommodation before the bandwidth consumption we consume us and our previous hosting provider pegase touch us notice of a fine of € 2 per gigabyte of over consumed.

From Interdominios, which was our first home when we had the portal, through hosting LMI until Dreamhost is going to be our home from now on, we have not had any problems and we are quite happy with the service you have given us all. Yet this modest blog has been growing over time, also visits each month and see how much spent, or better consumíais, and wait for the small fines resulting from excessive consumption, were not the best for us. So before the summer, thinking that by September-October and would consume more of the 6 GB that we hired, we had a meeting on the subject in which we decided to make the change in accommodation aware of what this entails.

After considering two main options, Media Temple and Dreamhost, both offering a bandwidth consumed per month ever, we chose the latter because of its low cost at least during the first year. In fact, the sign-up, we are offered a discount code you enter as you never know how long it will remain in the blogosphere, the cheapest option always wins.

Dreamhost is a very popular hosting service, we were not going to get in over your head, with criticism and praise for the pair, but it seems that the middle name is The Tangled Documentalist risk, so we finally gave up for U.S. supplier. The first surprise with which we found was that we asked that they enviásemos a fax so that we activate the account. Through a process of "Hi-Tech, we requested that due to the high amount of fraud in new customers who were receiving them enviásemos proof that we were a few customers flesh. How? "Simply, we had to fill out a form and faxing. The most curious of all was the third and most important step:

Please place your credit card under this paper and make an imprint of the card below by rubbing a crayon or pencil along the surface of the paper. A photocopy is not acceptable. Please ensure that the card number and cardholder name are legible - multiple rubbings are OK!

That is, we did an impression on paper with a pencil the numbers of our credit card to prove we were real customers. Seeing this, the first thought that comes to mind is: Am I being playing a joke? The second is: I look for another company. But when you realize that you have passed the bill and your bank account you already discounted price, do not choice but to try to go along with it or at least try.

So you do what you say and send a fax to the U.S. without much hope (remember to put the number "00" to make international calls but the number will always be communicating) and to think that no one will answer because the number you dialed will be wrong. But the next day you write an email from Dreamhost, kindly though, and you say that after all this trouble is not worth the card, the numbers have to be stressed up, the card you sent them correspond to a flat card. And now where I get my self a card with these features if I only have one? @ What friend would both let you do something as strange as this with your card?

Fortunately, I called the bank that afternoon, you say that you have a credit card and waiting for you, messed up his eyebrows in this case, assume that you accept and rush to pick it up. In front of the cashier, while looking for your card, waiting to see if it has the numbers raised by preparing a response if you're not any good and ... Yes, it seems that finally going to send a second fax to the U.S..

Again, completing this form, you send it, after all waiting and activate your account. Finally, you can start working on your new accommodation, so that everything is more or less in place ... do not forget that you have to change the DNS domain "documentalistaenredado.net" to the new hosting, although you do something that does not work the overnight because they have to refresh the DNS tables. Well, it is assumed that it may take 24 to 72 hours, but if you have a little patience and cross your fingers, maybe not ever change over accommodation for your blog, do not have to send credit card impressions to the United States fax, do not get pudding head a bit more than they already are and everything becomes a stupid sequence of misfortunes.

In short, anything the blog ... Damn hobbies.

Well, all the changes have risks, so we accept to see if we're lucky. So far, we have no complaint except that maybe the server that we are a bit slow. We have already spent a time on this and hope that this is our last change, because of course it is a pain. In short, it's fun if it goes well, if not ... Although there are always problems, but what counted was completely above Mars.

  6. [...] These past months have been tremendously difficult for me from a personal standpoint and from a few weeks ago, so are from a labor standpoint. I said once a log is very fragile, one day you find more or less settled, publishing regularly with your readers that you discussed and the next morning everything seems to have changed, never to return. Even the best bloggers say goodbye personally, one that is less than others, I recognize that nothing can be the same, but we still have a commitment with this weblog, at least for another year, so we update , wondering a few things, trying to provide some content.
