The terms knowledge society and knowledge management have become so familiar that it is not uncommon that we are even writers who dare to give a definition of them without missing the shot. Moreover, the media have also tried to approach these concepts, so, for example, we had the newspaper La Vanguardia exemplifies the concept of knowledge management with a graph.

mailing list Iwetel that "knowledge management is simply organizing information and move it. Only this is not too snobbish and, therefore, we must replace 'organizing information 'to' information management 'and' move information 'to' knowledge management ' ".

The truth is that the management of intangibles, knowledge management, knowledge management, all those who want to provide synonyms, should be approached from four different points of view: The business, human, technological and documentary. In fact, if we go to each of the disciplines will find a different view, but it is important to be aware that if one of these fails, knowledge management fail miserably because it means a document management without a computer, a vision utility within the organization and a recipient who is an employee or user.

Personally, I believe the graphic La Vanguardia is wrong because it forgets one of the components and you have to convince people that they should make a correct management of information, but it is completely necessary to constantly assess the system so that when the information needs change, management system and transform them to adapt to new surroundings.

Under the approach of implementing knowledge management in an organization, I think documentarians often tipped the balance and we attach much importance to certain elements of the system.

We were not inert to certain pressures on knowledge management and are in danger of forgetting that document management is first and fundamental to its proper implementation.

At the moment I'm designing a plan for knowledge management within an organization and the tensions between the elements / subsystems are complex plan's viability.

    Hello Mark, Elizabeth:
recomposed the schema with a different perspective, science and culture, key to the organization.
there are still four perspectives, but assigned to various disciplines performing a same function of the figure mentioned by La Vanguardia.
    1. scientific-cultural management, to organize and assimilate
    2. organizational knowledge management to adjust and assimilate information to a public context
    3. informational management to decide the contents, forms and ways of "spreading" to specific individuals or the public
    4. technology and document management, because as he says, can not process information without making it interactive and at the time, the result of social interactions.
