How should I configure my feeds?

One of the marvels that websites have inherited from blogs are the Feeds . The feed is an anglicized word, in computer jargon, usually refers to a type of data used to provide information that is updated with different frequencies. This term is used to refer to documents formatted RSS or Atom, based on XML, that allow aggregators collect information from websites unionized. That is, can we be updated of new content for a website without needing to visit regularly, because the updating of new content is done through a specific program or web page.

The debate over the use we can give to feeds has been extended almost from the beginning of weblogs and covers many points of reflection from how much information should provide them [Titles Extratos or full text] or if is also a platform for advertising spot (Although this does not enter). In what is no doubt that a person who adds to our feed has become a faithful reader who is really interested in our content and we have to make to the conversation of the blogosphere.

Feeds configuration options in Wordpress

From my point of view, getting a reader, a real reader, is terribly complicated and a personal triumph and therefore should not obsessed with the tyranny of statistics on page views and unique visitors. On this, we are already sufficiently exposed to the whims of search engines, with ups and downs of Pagerank and other avatars, whether visitors are on holiday or not, to punish our faithful even forcing them to visit our website. We must remember that many bloggers what they really want, though they deny that they write is being read, that your message reaches; feeds have incredible potential, they may even have uses completely unexpected, and we must not abuse our whim.

My point is that we should not think only in terms of audience, we must consider that readers attach themselves to our audience feeds are fixed, which will surely read what we have written, while the rest of readers are in their Most casual. Provide a headline or a summary of the text is very intelligent in society infoxication when barely have time to read the mail or answer it and read about our aggregators is a prize that we after a long day behind a computer . Surely, if you offer your feeds geldings with only excerpts or titles, many readers will stop to read them or even less in-fulfillment a visit, what to say to leave a comment. Therefore, you should give your faithful what they want, your thoughts and ideas, and forget about the numbers of meters that will come in another way.

Furthermore, to our content in full, when they are published simultaneously can give us some headaches as the theft of contents by Web Scrappers. That is to publish our content in full once may mean that shamelessly displayed within another website without any relationship with us even being penalized by Google for having duplicate content. No doubt it's a risk and expose ourselves to, but we can fix and avoid specifying the URL of the original text.

For example, in Wordpress, various plugins available to prevent this and to make a declaration of ownership or an alert about it. Without going any further, on this blog, we use the plugin FeedEntryHeader precisely to this end, thanks to the public within the feed the post author's name and address of the text. Redundant, yes, but necessary for the times.
