Arguments for Documenea

Allow me to break a lance in favor of one of the projects 2.0 released for information professionals and that until then had not spent the time or thought it deserves. Specifically, I refer to the website for the promotion of Library and Information Science news, Documenea, already talked in more detail the activity within Community 2.0 Community of Practice and gives me the impression he's going completely unnoticed within our group.

I find it strange that during this year as 2.0, which is being addressed roundtables, conferences, courses and various activities related to the world of the Social Web, it seems that the message "participatory" is really seeping into our collective. It is possible that if Documenea have to be cooked more slowly, for his idea and concept, however I believe this website is a valid environment to address issues currently not only information professionals but also for other stakeholders, and make known the reality Hispanic library through social promotion news.

I distinctly remember, when we launched the portal The Tangled Documentalist (website which he is liable this blog), we had a section called News encargábamos where we publish the most interesting of which was published in the media about the libraries and Documentation. Obviously, this was an activity that Cut & Paste, but allowed to comment, we never met because the return from our users was virtually nonexistent.

Bearing in mind that our site was purely 1.0 (if you will) as an editor decide which stories were interesting and which were not at the time of publishing on the web, this is far from the idea of collaborative activity which preaches the Web 2.0 and that the concept of social news filtering can cover well. Thus Documenea is where the community decides what news is relevant or not, while the rich with their own input. The truth is that it would have been desirable for information professionals had been launched to support a project of this nature, but I imagine that the printing of its directors is somewhat bittersweet because, despite having a lot of users dice high, very few took part actively.

It is also unfortunate that Documenea has not yet become a place to promote news that bubbles present on all four sides. For example, the situation of librarians de Oviedo I discovered through a blog and not affected through this site, while the news last week denounced the situation of the Valencian libraries with some difficulty discovered a consultation to a database where I work. Curiously, the news about the lack of funding for libraries that Valencian it was sent for publication in Documenea, but the community did not consider relevant and not even reached the front page (!) Because users did not vote enough.

We must remember that Documenea not just a place to promote news (or SEO activities), must also follow the guiding principle for the establishment of discussions necessary to fully mature and established an occupation that does not run from their problems and that difficulties seen in the other their own because everyone, after all, reach. That's where the debates should be produced in burning Iwetel current news and many do not realize we reach for our e-mails and grizzled.

In any case, Documenea also must show some progress and think that it will be necessary to update the CMS, if available, at least to take advantage of improvements developed by the team Reddit this platform on which it sits. On the other hand, I also seem somewhat bleeding some system configuration issues, because where would read notes Documenea Digg (For example in the feeds) which can produce confusion less advanced users.

In short, much work remains to be done both from the viewpoint of administrators and their community, but we should not afford to let languish a very interesting initiative and necessary. Because if a project of this size fails, others such as, for example, a wikipedia librarian could face a similar fate over time. Personally, I remain willing to increase my activity within this web whenever my other concerns so allow me, hoping that we develop and support activity evolves over time, while we known within the company to which serve and develop our business.

Thanks, once again, for your accurate observations, Mark. And because of your involvement with this project. I agree almost everything you say, although it could perhaps some statements qualify something I do not believe that this project go as unnoticed as you say, although far from what we would like. We follow it.
    Un abrazo,

Only one discrepancy, Mark, I have to contradict you on one thing, the problem of the Libraries of Oviedo was at all times in Documenea (from scratch), even long before the blog to which you refer; Garabu, the Blog of AOSIS took care of it. In all other respects I agree with you.
    Health

  3. First of all, thank you for your remarks.

@ Javier I'm sure that "behind the curtains" items have more value than I to judge the success or otherwise of this initiative. But the truth is that it could be much better if there was more involvement by professionals. But time to time and patience.

@ Rlavandera. Well, maybe I did not realize until then, which says a lot about me.

    :-P

Well, see if you try to lift it by providing content in the form of links and commentary. Suerte con el proyecto!

  4. You're right that you say, execelente Documenea is a platform on which we all participate, send news, comment ... I see an excess of newspaper reports, especially from El Pais, I think it should more professional page ... but everything depends on those who participated in Menéame

Perhaps documenea drag the karma-P of screenshots, which evolved from being a clone of barrapunto.com (web geek par excellence, in turn cloned slashdot.com) has moved to mimic the case and in this plan ... I I miss is that people comment the news! seems like there is some fear portrayed, I do not think anyone has time to say ...

Personally, I do not give more importance to these forums which could have a talking desktop, as far as feedback is concerned. If you want to build something more serious, other routes exist. But if you were to assemble a critical mass of reporters, pundits, as a barometer of current events, and informal agora "scene" would cost, EMHO.

Furthermore: why not promoted more among students? It seems ideal to keep us up to date on what's going on ... a final plea: for the next anniversary, documenea statistics, please! It would be informative.

    Hi:
A proposito de meneame documenea and I like two places - perhaps I should say a site and a clone - excellent.

But ... Has anyone ever been able to install it? Let us know and greet you personally.

The only thing I've found to install it is a cynical "Installation Instructions Digg in 10 not-so-crooked steps" and the same thing elsewhere.

Anyway, seguire intentadolo. For that I think artecfacyto extremely useful, well designed etc ... ..

Curiously if I could install Pligg but this in English and until we return for that gibraltar.

So if someone can give some help, track (which is not a package of ducats and coffee) as grateful in advance.
